Copy Editor
Copy Editor has been the leading newsletter in its field since 1990. Its subscribers are a who's who of language professionals working in-house or freelance for newspapers, magazines, journals, newsletters, publishing houses, corporations, universities, government agencies, and nonprofits. Bill Walsh, chief copy editor for national news at the Washington Post, is perhaps the United States' best-known newspaper copy editor. He has been a newspaper journalist for over two decades and has written two on usage and style, Lapsing Into a Comma (2000) and The Elephants of Style (2004). His Web site, The Slot: A Spot for Copy Editors, is one of the first online authorities on the craft of copy editing.

Society for Technical Communication
STC is an individual membership organization dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of technical communication. It is the largest organization of its type in the world. Its 25,000 members include technical writers and editors, content developers, documentation specialists, technical illustrators, instructional designers, academics, information architects, usability and human factors professionals, visual designers, Web designers and developers, and translators - anyone whose work makes technical information available to those who need it. STC has an active San Diego Chapter.

San Diego Writers/Editors Guild
SDW/EG is a group of writers and editors dedicated to improving their skills and helping others do the same. The guild was founded in 1979 as a non-profit and is believed to be the oldest writers organization in the region.

National Writers Union
NWU is the trade union for freelance and contract writers: journalists, book authors, business and technical writers, web content providers, and poets. With the combined strength of 3,500 members in 17 local chapters nationwide, and with the support of the United Automobile Workers (UAW), the Union works to defend the rights and improve the economic and working conditions of all writers.

Independent Writers of Southern California
The Independent Writers of Southern California is a group for professional, self-employed writers. The organization focuses on the business of writing, holds meetings, publishes a newsletter, and maintains a job referral service.

Publishers and Writers of San Diego
PWSD has been serving as a forum for education, networking, and motivation for nearly ten years. Originally founded as the San Diego Publishers Alliance, this group comprises members from all areas of publishing and writing—authors, self-publishers, independent publishers, editors, book packagers, designers, consultants, and promotional professionals.

National Association for the Self-Employed
NASE is the nation's leading resource for the self-employed and micro-businesses (up to ten employees), providing a broad range of benefits and support to help the smallest businesses succeed.
